The North Pole Marathon 2012
In the North Pole Marathon, the standard 26 mile course, is completed across frozen sea ice. It is based upon a 2.6 mile circular route, which each competitor must complete ten times, keeping their eyes peeled for open water, polar bears and shifting ice.
James Matthews competed in the event in 2012 and was placed a bracing third with a time of 4 hours 41 minutes.
None of the costs of entering the North Pole Marathon fell on the Charity, having been borne in full by members of Michael’s family. Every penny raised benefited directly the young people whom MMF supports. This has been a guiding principle of the Foundation from the start.
